While there are three more months in 2014, Australia has already produced some exciting movies so far. A few of these may be considered to be some of the greatest films made in recent times in Australia. Here is a list of four movies you shouldn't miss.

The Rover

Director: David Michôd

Cast: Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson and Scoot McNairy

This movie belongs to the contemporary western genre. The story takes place ten years after the world experiences an economic recession. The movie premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival in May and later at the 2014 Sydney Film Festival in June. The movie was appreciated for its fabulous cast and script. The movie deals with a man who is searching for a stolen vehicle and something important inside it.

Kill Me Three Times

Director: Kriv Stenders

Cast: Simon Pegg, Sullivan Stapelton, Alice Braga and Callan Mulvey

This thriller was screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival in the Contemporary World Cinema section in September. The movie is about a professional assassin played by Pegg. The assassin is hired to kill a woman, played by Braga, who is a wealthy man's wife, played by Muvley. The story is narrated distinctly from three different points of view. This was the debut for Irish screenplay writer James McFarland.

Healing

Director: Craig Monahan

Cast: Hugo Weaving, Don Hany and Xavier Samuel

The movie is about Viktor Kahdem who is sentenced to a low-security prison farm. While the environment is absolutely non-threatening, it is expected that some individuals may still reform themselves. Matt Perry is working on a programme which rehabilitates such men by giving them responsibilities. Perry chooses Kahdem as his first case against all the odds. Kahdem is given the responsibility of a majestic wedge tailed eagle called Yasmine.

Predestination

Director: Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig

Cast: Ethan Hawke, Sarah Snook, Noah Taylor and Madeleine West

This thriller is a science fiction, which is based on "All You Zombies," the short story written by Robert A. Heinlein. The movie is about a Temporal Agent who gets involved in time-travel. The travels are designed for him to continue his career in law enforcement for eternity. He is sent on his final mission where he has to deal with a criminal whom he failed to outsmart throughout his career. The movie got highly positive reviews from critics. The movie was released in March at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival.
