'Top Gun 2': Miles Tiller selected to play Goose's son
The big role of Goose’s (Anthony Edwards) son in “Top Gun 2” has been cast. Miles Tiller has reportedly been selected for the role after screen testing. The film is about the lives of fighter pilots in this modern age of aviation and combat.
According to a report by Variety, Teller was in the race for the job along with Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult. The three actors reportedly screen tested for the role with lead actor Tom Cruise (Maverick), and later Teller was selected.
Teller is known for his role in big budget movies like “Fantastic Four” and “Insurgent.” The only other confirmed cast member of the film is Val Kilmer, who will be reprising his role as Iceman. The first “Top Gun” movie was released way back in 1986.
The plot of the upcoming film will look at the lives of fighter pilots at a time when fifth generation fighter planes are being used, and drones are increasingly replacing pilots. The role of the fighter pilots is evolving, and Maverick’s protégé will be Miller’s character.
The film will be directed by Joseph Kosinski. Cruise has worked with Kosinski before in “Oblivion” movie. The upcoming film will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Cruise, and Skydance CEO David Ellison. Bruckheimer was also the producer of the 1986 movie.
The screenplay of the upcoming film has been written by Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer. Marks previously wrote the script of “The Jungle Book” and Singer wrote for “American Hustle.”
It will be interesting to see if “Top Gun: Maverick” will be able to replicate the success of the 1986 film. More casting announcements are expected in the coming weeks, and the production is expected to begin soon. The film is set to be released on July 12, 2019 in the US.
