'Top Gun: Maverick': Another pilot joins the team
The list of pilots featured in “Top Gun: Maverick” has just gotten larger with the addition of another name. Actor Manny Jacinto has reportedly joined the film as a pilot. It remains to be seen if there will be more casting news for the movie in the coming weeks.
According to a report by Deadline, Jacinto is playing a pilot called Fritz. Details about the character are currently being kept under wraps, and the producers haven’t made any official announcement about the casting yet.
Jacinto has been a part of many popular TV series. His projects include “Once Upon a Time,” “The Good Place,” and “The Good Doctor.”
The plot of the upcoming film will revolve around Pete Mitchell (Tom Cruise) as a Top Gun trainer, teaching the next generation of pilots the tricks of aerial combat. Among the young pilots there is the son of Pete’s late friend and co-pilot, a character played by Miles Teller.
It isn’t clear if there will be an enemy nation that the heroes will take on in a conflict in the film. In the 1986 film the enemy country was not named. The American F 14 Tomcats took on multiple Migs in the Indian Ocean in that film, and the enemy planes appeared to be that of China, even though this wasn’t explicitly mentioned in the movie.
The plot of the film is also expected to focus on the problems and opportunities for the present day pilots. The advent of drone technology has revolutionised the way wars are fought, and it remains to be seen if it will also affect the way dogfighting is conducted.
Filming of “Top Gun: Maverick” has been ongoing for some time now. The film is set to be released on June 26, 2020 in the US. The producers are yet to announce a release date for Australia.
