The official website of the Red Devils, manutd.com, have put out the following ten events as the most memorable events of 2014. They have been placed in a chronological order.

The first was the arrival of Juan Mata. Mata arrived on a helicopter back in January to sign for the club for a record fee. Since making his debut, he has played in 31 matches and scored 11 league goals for the club. Next was the departure of club captain Nemanja Vidiv. After making 211 appearances for the club and winning five Barclays Premier League and the UEFA Champions League trophies, he bid the club farewell and went to play in Italy. The third was David De Gea being named the Fans' Player of the Year and the Players' Player of the Year by the club after a stunning campaign last season.

The fourth was the retirement of Ryan Giggs. Arguably the greatest player to have worn the Manchester United shirt, he ended his career where he started to play professional football. His 23 years at the club coincided with the club winning the Premier League 13 times, The FA Cup four times and the UEFA Champions League twice. Fifth was when Louis van Gaal was named the new manager. The Dutch manager had previously managed big clubs like Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich successfully. He also had managed Netherlands National football team twice.

The sixth was when Van Gaal bought Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rajo as well as the record club signing Angel Di Maria. The sevent was a record crowd of 109, 308 being witness to the Red Devil's defeat of Real Madrid at Michigan Stadium to lift the pre-season International Champions Cup. The eight was Wayne Rooney being named captain of the team. Along with it Darren Fletcher being appointed the vice-captain. Next was the deadline day signing of Daley Blind and a loan deal for Ramadel Falcao. Lastly it now seems that a new era has emerged. With the new signings performing for the club, it seems that the new manager has heralded a new dawn.
