Toronto Film Festival: “Rush” And “Gravity” Soaring High (With Videos And Photos)
Toronto International Film Festival was officially opened last Sunday night September 8, 2013 where Oscar contenders "Rush" and "Gravity" premiered.
With more than 300 featured films from 60-plus countries being screened, the festival committee has completed the considerably epic line up of films for its 38th edition.
The 1976 Formula One movie "Rush" is making waves anywhere it goes as it features the real life story between the two rivals, James Hunt played by Chris Hemsworth and Nikki Lauda played by Oscar nominee Daniel Bruhl. The two drivers are both in the opposite side of the spectrum, Hunt is a British playboy who mostly relied on his instinct and Lauda is an Austrian shy guy who relied more on science.
Written by the talented Peter Morgan ("Frost/Nixon"), "Rush" got a rapturous response from its London premier and Morgan confesses that he was nervous on how the film would do outside his home country. Just before the premier, he was wondering how would Americans would react on a story with no Americans and their interest in Formula One racing.
In favor with Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity", astronaut Chris Hadfield - the first Canadian to walk in space - was in attendance and he was all praise with the film particularly on the film's leading lady Sandra Bullock. "If I ever fly in space again, I want to fly with Sandra", say's Hadfield.
Many critics are already calling the race for Sandra's Oscar nomination with her epic performance in zero gravity as she plays astronaut, Ryan Stone, who got stuck in outer space with no one to rely on but herself. "Gravity's" continuous build up is making more headlines than any other films in the festival and for the sure the film will take flight straight to the Oscars.
The epic line up includes new films from John Wells, Jean-Marc Vallee, Nicole Holofcener, Aton Egoyan, Errol Morris, David Gordon Green, Alfonso Cuaron, Frederick Wiseman, Sean Durkin, James Franco, Paul Haggis, Brillante Mendoza, Ti West, Mark Cousins, Ron Howard, and many more. Actors who director are also on the roll like Mike Myers, Jason Batemean, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
