It’s going to be a tough call for NRL officials when they decide on the fate of West Tigers' pin-up boy, Benji Marshall who had an altercation with a civilian early Saturday morning.

According to The Age, the NRL has demanded that Tigers submit a report following the unfortunate incident over the weekend.

The West Tigers’ 26-year old, 'face of the game' in 2011 was charged with one count of assault after he reportedly occasioned actual bodily harm against a male victim, whom Marshall’s camp has contended was showing aggressiveness in his behavior prompting the star athelete to attack him.

The threat felt by Marshall according to his manager, Martin Tauber had forced the Tigers captain to respond to the victim.

Detectives interviewed Marshall after the incident and he was charged with assault shortly after the preliminary investigation over the weekend.

The victim claimed, said The Age, that he had only shouted : “Darren Lockyer is a better player”.

The conflict in statements between the two parties will make it difficult for the NRL officials to make a decision on the matter. The officials contended however, that the incident could be resolved in the court system, said The Age.

“Clearly if there are matters that are in dispute then the correct place for this to take part is the court system. That has been a well-established practice on our part,” NRL boss, David Gallop was quoted as saying by The Age.

Marshall is due in court on April 20.
