Veteran free agent Stephen Jackson is returning to the NBA after signing a contract with the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday.

The move is seen to address the Clippers’ injury issues after wingmen J.J. Reddick, Matt Barnes and Reggie Bullock all suffered various injuries in the first quarter of the NBA regular season.

Nicknamed “S-Jax”, he is expected to join the team after his physical exam.

Jackson’s career year was with the Golden State Warriors in 2008-2009 when he averaged 20.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game. Last year, he was cut by the San Antonio Spurs in an apparent falling out with San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich because of attitude problems.

Jackson won an NBA championship in his first stint with the Spurs in 2003 and was a key player for San Antonio during that championship run.

The 35-year-old forward has had thirteen fruitful and sometimes controversial years in the NBA. He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns as a second rounder in 1997 but did not see NBA action until the New Jersey Nets signed him in the 2000-2001 season when he started 40 out of 77 games played.

The most controversial incident Jackson was involved in during his NBA career was at the “Malice at The Palace” or the infamous brawl between the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons.

While he is a volatile personality, he is known for his toughness and defensive tenacity—something the Clippers can use this season.
