Tourist from Ireland Went Missing After Jumping In the Yarra River in Melbourne, Australia
A man was rescued in the Yarra River in Melbourne and was sent to the Royal Melbourne Hospital. The ambulance spokesperson said the man suffered hypothermia and was now being treated in the facility.
The air wing and water police is currently looking for the other man missing in the same river since witness Edoardo Fabini told authorities he saw two men jumping off at the Federation Squate side of Yarra River around 8:45 p.m. while he was sitting by the river bank closet to Boathouse Drive.
They both tried to swim across until one of them shouted for help. Mr. Fabini thought it was a joke, but then two men from one side and another two from the other side jumped into the water to help them.
While they tried to rescue the two men drowning, one of them went underwater. The man went missing until now.
The search and rescue authorities together with the local police unit helped in finding the missing person.
A waiter working at the Riverland Restaurant was nominated by paramedics according to Susie Dean, paramedic team manager, for a bravery award after attempting to rescue two men, in which he was only able to drag one of them back to shore.
Ms Dean heard witnesses saying the young gentleman jumped off and swam closer to the middle of the river where he has grabbed one person and pulled him back to shore. The brave man was working in one of the restaurants located at the side of the river.
Witnesses further added that he went back to the river to search and save the other person, but cannot be found.
Ms Dean said the two victims were on a holiday from Ireland together with a group of friends.
