Trans Guy Took 1,400 Selfies to Document Facial Changes
Jamie Raines was just turning 18 when she came out and told her mother. She then started taking testosterone to help ‘masculinize’ her appearance, voice and body. The first selfie she took was on the day she started on the medication.
He talked about transforming his life particularly capturing his physical transitions in photos every day. . “I initially intended to just do it for the first year,” he told BuzzFeed News. “But then I didn’t get any facial hair in my first year.” So he decided to keep on taking his selfies daily for three years.
After two years on testosterone medication, facial hair began to appear and more and more changes are now noticeable. He lost his chubby cheeks, his face got a little longer and there was a slight change on the appearance of his nose. By the third year, Jamie was already sporting a full beard and a very masculine face.
His 3-year testosterone journey was fully and exclusively documented in a short film using 1,400 photos to detail the transition from one gender to another. A Channel 4 TV producer saw the film and included Raines in a new documentary about transgender men.
