“I think the punishment by FIFA is excessive.” - Pedro on Suarez penalty Reuters

Former FC Barcelona skipper Carles Puyol believes that the addition of Luis Suarez to the Blaugrana makes the Catalan outfit even stronger in spite of the controversy that the ex-Liverpool has recently caused during the World Cup.

The 27-year-old Uruguay international, who bit Italy's Giorgio Chiellini, is currently serving a four-month ban meted out by FIFA, but has already issued an apology for his unsportsmanlike conduct.

"There is no justification for what Suarez did, but things like that occur when you lose your head - it can happen.," Puyol told FIFA.

"At any rate, he has apologised for it. He's a great footballer, extremely competitive and scores a great deal. I think he can bring a lot to an attack that's already brimming with quality."

"With Luis, we can be even stronger."

Should the ban be sustained, as Barca are reportedly seeking to have the decision overturned on appeal, Suarez will miss, among others, three Champions League group stage matches and nine La Liga fixtures.
