Family, friends, and fans alike have turned to the social media Twitter and Facebook to pay tribute for the death of The Angel's Front man Bernard "Doc" Neeson.

The 67-year-old singer died early Wednesday morning at a private Sydney Hospital after a long-standing battle with brain tumor. According to a post from Doc Neeson's Facebook page, the singer passed away while sleeping at 7:15 a.m.

The Ireland-born singer-songwriter shoot to fame in the 1970s after Australia's legendary hard rock band released its first debut single titled, "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again." He was best known for his very physical live performances and several successful albums for his over two decades of stint at The Angel.

Doc Neeson left the band in 1999 after a car accident left him with a severe spinal injury. A back specialist who treated his injury warned him of the risk being tied to a wheelchair if he continued doing live performances.

The Angel's front man was diagnosed with cancer in January 2013 and had been on regular treatment. He was recently featured on ABC's Australian Story. The segment entitled, "A Very Good Rascal," looked back at Doc Neeson's fascinating career and his battle with the illness.

"The news is grim, but some people can get through this, and that's the way I try to think about things," Doc Neeson said in an interview.

His children left a heartwarming tribute to him on Facebook. "We love you Dad. You couldn't have made any of your sons more proud of you if you tried. May your beautiful soul rest in peace sweet angel, fly high," the post read. Thousands of people who saw the Facebook post have left their words of comfort to the singer.

Tributes to Doc Neeson also poured out in via Twitter from Australia's music industry and fans. Spirit Music Group said, "We're very saddened by the passing of one of rock's true legends, The Angels' Bernard "Doc" Neeson. RIP."

Music Feeds also tweeted, "The Australian music industry is mourning the loss of @TheAngelsOz frontman Doc Neesn."

Another user @rcfisk noted he will listen to The Angel's band all the long in tribute. Still another user @DavidHasselhoff honored the legendary singer with the words, "A sad and glorious day as God blesses a brand new angel...Doc Neeson."
