The driver of a truck that killed a teenage pedestrian in a hit-and-run south-east of Melbourne on Monday night is still at large.

The hit-and-run victim, a 19-year-old woman was on the Frankston-Flinders Road at Somerville about 8.45pm when the truck hit her, after which the truck continued northward, according to the police.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics spent 30 minutes trying to revive her, but she died at the scene from multiple injuries, AAP reported.

Police from the Major Collision Investigation Unit said the driver of the truck failed to stop after the collision and continued travelling north along Frankston-Flinders Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come out and talk about the incident. The truck is said to be light in colour, small, and of older model.

The teen's death takes the state's road toll to 39, 10 more than for the same period last year, according to AAP.
