Is 2015 going to be a lucky year for Justin Trudeau? Will he able to grab the keys of 24 Sussex Drive? Will he be the next prime minister of Canada? The assumptions are going strong.

Mr Trudeau has always shown his intention to be the voice of the youth in the country. The Liberal leader has been articulate about issues which the Canadian youth are concerned about. Is his combination of change, hope and legalised marijuana continues to work until 2015; he may well be the successor of Stephen Harper. However, things will not be easy and who knows it better than Mr Trudeau himself.

It may have been a deliberate approach of Mr Trudeau to engage young voters in his discussions on bigger social networking platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Young people in the country tend to favour him because he talks their language and he is concerned about what they are concerned about. On the contrary, recent polls suggest that the youth is still not interested in his party even though they love Mr Trudeau for his efforts, especially regarding the legalisation of marijuana.

The Ipsos poll held this summer showed that the youth of the country (people aged between 18 and 34) still prefer the NDP to the Grits. While the former is seen as a party that portrays inspiration and honesty, the latter often portrays arrogance and lethargy. The Canadian youth still believe that the NDP is going to mould the future of the country.

Another poll held in September showed that the difference between the Liberal Party and the NDP was 12 per cent. The Forum poll surveyed young people between 18 and 34, only to find out that 37 per cent of them were likely to vote the NDP, while 22 per cent had the inclination toward the Liberals.

Mr Trudeau can, however, cash in his popularity among the youth who can make a huge difference in the election. On the contrary, they are still not aware of their potential power, according to Marc Mayrand as told to The Huffington Post Canada.

Only 38.8 per cent of the young voters cast their vote last time.
