True Detective’ Season 2 Casting News, Update: Matthew McConaughey Talks About Returning to the Show as Rust Cohle
Anyone who got hooked to "True Detective" Season 1 would know what a delight it would be to see Matthew McConaughey returning to HBO series' season 2. "True Detective" was clearly this year's biggest debut drama thriller. Starring Matthew McConaughey as Detective Rust Cohle and Woody Harrelson as Detective Martin Hart, "True Detective" acquired huge fan-following within few days of show's premiere.
Ever since debut season got wrapped up, fans have been anxious about series' future. Any update on the show's casting or plot, is like a treat for fans.
Even before the show ended, "The Dallas Buyers Club" star said that he wouldn't be returning for the second season. This left fans disappointed.
But in his latest interview with Deadline, the actor hints change in his decision.
"One season, eight episodes, a finite beginning, middle and end, goodbye, look forward to watching it," told Matthew McConaughey to Deadline.
"If HBO had wanted an option on me for a Season 2 or 3, I wouldn't have done it. I wouldn't have walked into something where they could say, "We've got you for the next three years."
While this may not sound like good news, read on.
"I liked 'True Detective,' the whole series and the experience of making it, so much that I'd be open to doing another one now. At the time, I was looking at six months and not beyond that. I don't know of a feature film I'd sign for where I'm going to say, "If this works, you've got me whenever you want me for the next three years," told Matthew McConaughey to the publication.
Several media outlets infer that the actor may have dropped a bomb of a spoiler, hinting at the possible return to "True Detective" Season 2.
Meanwhile, second season casting rumours are spreading like a wildfire. Speculations are running rampant and names like Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Paige and more have emerged.
But according to new spoilers by show's creator Nic Pizzolatto, "True Detective" Season 2 will feature three leads. Pizzolatto told "Best of Our Knowledge" podcast (via TV Guide) that out of three, at least one of them will be a woman. Who would you want to see as lead characters in show's next installment? Would you like to see Matthew McConaughey reprise his character Rust Cohle in "True Detective" Season 2?
