"True Detective" has recently aired its finale episode, leaving fans of the hit HBO series figuring out the mysteries left unanswered by the show. While writer Nic Pizzolatto is still putting the puzzle pieces together for season 2, the Internet is busy speculating about the upcoming concept and new cast for the anthology series.

True Detective season 1 called out the curtain on Sun., March 9, giving the fans their last glimpse of Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) and Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey). Pizzolatto has revealed a few details about the next season, which will feature an entirely new setting, story and cast.

"Oh, all kinds of conspiracies suggest themselves," Pizzollatto answered Buzzfeed when he was asked about other stories he could write for season 2. "Especially if like me, you have been reading about the last 40 years of government in Southern California."

The writer also explained a post he recently removed from Twitter, talking about the show's lack of strong female characters and how he would change it in season 2. Previously, Lana Guineay, a fashion editor, tweeted Pizzollatto for some suggestions: "Hey @nicpizzolatto if True Detective looked at female characters with the same lens as masculine, it would be PERFECT and MIND-BLOWING." He then answered with: "@friggenawesome One of the detriments of only having two POV characters, both men (a structural necessity). Next season..." However, he removed this later on.

"I deleted my tweet because I did not want to be beholden to this promise and then change my mind. I am writing season 2 now but I do not want to divulge any potentialities because a lot could still change. I just do not want to create from a place of critical placation. That is a dead zone. So I do not want a gender-biased critique to influence what I do."

Pizzollatto has already confirmed with Hitflix that "True Detective" season 2 will focus on bad men, hard women and the U.S. transportation system and its occult history. He also told Entertainment Weekly that he has the rights to both Hart and Cohle's characters and he could still use them for other projects.

"True Detective" Season 2 is expected to debut in 2015.
