HBO's latest venture "True Detective" is one of the biggest hits of the year. HBO's detective drama is lauded by the critics and has acquired the fans' loyalty only after its first few episodes. Even before the end of the "True Detective" Season 1, people are talking about "True Detective" Season 2. Internet is flooded with speculations, spoilers and updates on the show's second season which has not yet been officially confirmed by the channel.

The biggest question is if the show will be renewed for Season 2 in 2015. Screencrush.com inferred that the series renewal is likely to happen. HBO has reportedly signed a two-year deal with series creator Nic Pizzolatto. Pizzolatto also happens to be an award-winning novelist. He is reportedly preparing the rough draft of "True Detective" Season 2 to present to the HBO executives.

"True Detective" Season 1 is "HBO's most watched series debut in over three years." On an average, the show gained "7.7million viewers across different platforms."

Season 1 of "True Detective" stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as the two detectives of Louisiana state police. The story revolves around the lives of these two police officers and the 17 year-old ritualistic murder case of a young girl Dora Lange.

Fans are already excited for the new season which is yet to get a nod and official announcement from the channel. Whether or not the channel renews the show for its Season 2, the rumoured new lead characters remains a burning question. As noted by Deadline.com, Matthew McConaughey will not return for "True Detective" Season 2. It is said that the show will follow an anthology approach with a new cast and new story that will be narrated by a duo of detectives.

Deadline reported that while speaking at TCA earlier this month, Nic Pizzolatto teased a season that could be "much more of a widespread conspiracy thriller, a season that's a small‑town murder mystery, a season where nobody is murdered and it's a master criminal versus a rogue detective or something."

More updates reveal that director Cary Fukunaga will not return to direct "True Detective" Season 2. According to Zap2it.com report, the director who directed all eight-episodes of the series will now be working for a new TV show. His directorial style has been widely appreciated especially the 6-minute long escape scene featured in "True Detective" Season 1 Episode titled "Who Goes There?" The epic one-shot scene with gunshots became the hottest topic of discussion.
