'Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2' Falls Short at Box Office

The league of vampires who sparkles and a leading lady who has in teenage angst with only one facial expression has finally ended. Looks like the "Twilight" fans didn't work hard to make their favourite sparkly movie a big hit.

In fact, the "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" falls short of the box office hit the first film managed to make and it once again fails to beat the last instalment of "Harry Potter."

The "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" managed to reel in $30.4 million during its midnight debut. Yet, the amount was ironically still not enough compared from the amount on the opening day franchise record for "Twilight." On Friday, the saga finale hit a whopping $71.2 million which is enough to make fans go "Wow."

However, the big question is with that "whopping amount", why didn't the "Twilight" Saga become a box-office hit? With that amount, the movie for "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy managed to hit the box office. The same thing went for the wizardly franchise, "Harry Potter" which once again brings fans of both films to that fight of comparison between "Twilight" and "Harry Potter."

Answering the question: why didn't "Twilight" become a box office hit? Kidding aside, with a group of sparkly vampires and a love story that doesn't match up to "Serendipity", the movie wasn't much of a big hit for other movie goers. Another reason film critics managed to point out was Kristen's cheating scandal. The cheating scandal didn't help out with the films' publicity. If anything, Stewart's indiscretion made some dedicated "Robsten" fans not see the movie.

According to Box Office Mojo, that's the 6th largest opening day in history. Two of the top five movies with bigger opening days belong to the Twilight franchise. "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" took in $72.7 million and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1" grabbed $71.6 million on opening day.

Yet, with those records, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" still holds the box office record for the largest opening day while the final "Harry Potter" movie brought in $91 million.
