“Twin Peaks” star Miguel Ferrer has passed away battling throat cancer on Thursday. The 61-year-old was also most popular for his role as Owen Granger on “NCIS: Los Angeles.”

Ferrer, son of actor Jose Ferrer and singer Rosemary Clooney, reportedly passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his friends and family. Ferrer, also seen in several films and TV shows including “RoboCop” and “Crossing Jordan,” was also the cousin of George Clooney who announced the sad news.

"Miguel made the world brighter and funnier and his passing is felt so deeply in our family that events of the day, (monumental events), pale in comparison. We love you Miguel. We always will,” Clooney wrote to the Hollywood Reporter.

Miguel Ferrer was survived by two sons Lukas and Rafi, wife Lori, brother Rafael Ferrer as well as cousin Clooney. He was set to appear at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that took place recently to announce about the forthcoming season of “Twin Peaks.” However, he could not come.

A few hours before his death, the voice cast for DC Universe’s animated movie “Teen Titans: The Judas Contract” was announced. Ferrer had lent his voice to the character Deathstroke in the movie.

“NCIS: Los Angeles” showrunner R Scott Gemmill also expressed his grief in a statement, “Miguel was a man of tremendous talent who had a powerful dramatic presence on screen, a wicked sense of humor, and a huge heart. Our thoughts go out to his wife Lori, his sons, and his entire family. He will be greatly missed.”

“Twin Peaks” co-creator Mark Frost and actor Kyle MacLanchlan were deeply appalled to hear the news of Miguel Ferrer’s demise. They expressed the same on Twitter.
