Twitter Acquires Aussie Tech Start-Up We Are Hunted, To Launch Music App This Weekend
After much rumour explosion, Australian tech start-up We Are Hunted has confirmed it had been bought by social media giant Twitter, as the latter prepares to launch its music app this weekend.
"While we are shutting down wearehunted.com, we will continue to create services that will delight you, as part of the Twitter team," We Are Hunted said in a statement on its Web site.
"There's no question that Twitter and music go well together."
"Artists turn to Twitter first to connect with fans, and people share and discover new songs and albums every day. We can't wait to share what we've been working on at Twitter."
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
A Twitter Australia confirmed the news development, but did not disclose the company's precise role in its music app.
Reports have flaunted Twitter will launch its music app this weekend. Ryan Seacrest, American Idol host and radio personality, through his account tweeted that he has already started "playing with twitter's new music app." The official We Are Hunted account replied "so glad you're enjoying it," while tagging @twittermusic.
According to CNET, Twitter Music, based on a variety of signals, will suggest artists and songs to listen. It can likewise be personalised based on which accounts a user follows on Twitter. Songs are streamed to the app via SoundCloud.
Known for its 140-character messages, Twitters has in the past year aggressively widened its facilities to carry pictures, videos, and interactive content.
