Twitter fans laud ‘Glee’ actress Naya Rivera for coming clean about her abortion, anorexia

It has been over a year since Fox’s “Glee” aired its final episode, but one of its stars is back on the spotlight with a new controversy.
Naya Rivera, who has played the feisty, sensual and love-her-or-hate-her cheerleader Santana Lopez, made headlines this week because of the explosive revelations in her upcoming memoir titled “Sorry Not Sorry.” In her Twitter account, the 29-year-old actress shared her good news with her fans. “Got the finished hardcover copy of my book Sorry Not Sorry today! It’s really done and almost here!! SO excited,” she wrote. In another post, she said, “I hope that you all enjoy my story and respect my good intentions in sharing them with you.”

People, which scored exclusive excerpts from Rivera’s book, reports that “Sorry Not Sorry” contains the actress’ fun and light flashbacks throughout her years of working in Hollywood, but also touches on profound issues such as anorexia and abortion. In her memoir, Rivera revealed that she found out she was carrying a child in late 2010. At that time, she just broke off with the baby’s father, actor Ryan Dorsey, after she chose to focus on her career. “Glee,” which was on its second season, is enjoying high ratings then.
Rivera, who kept her condition a secret from Dorsey, made the difficult decision to terminate her pregnancy. “It was very scary to open up about everything,” Rivera told People. “It's not something a lot of people talk about, but I think they should. I know some people might read it and say, ‘What the hell?’ But I hope someone out there gets something out of it.” Rivera, who married Dorsey married in 2014, now has 11-month-old son with him named Josey.

Pregnancy was a hot topic of “Glee” on its first season. Santana’s friend, head cheerleader Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron) struggled with the consequences of being a future teen mom. Quinn, who came from a conservative family, was shunned by her parents. She was also cut from the cheerleading squad. She ended up giving up her daughter Beth, who was adopted by the coach of a rival glee club, Shelby Corcoran (Idina Menzel).
Rivera’s revelation about her abortion was met with positive comments from her fans and various organisations, including Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America.

However, Rivera also received some bashing and negative publicity, which she promptly addressed. She wrote, “I set out to write a book that was true to myself and would hopefully help others along the way. Media will always distort anything.”
