Two men believed to be holding dual United States and Haitian citizenship have been detained for the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise, the Associated Press is reporting.

The Haitian police have a total of 17 suspects detained. Fifteen of them are Colombian, and six of them are former Colombian soldiers.

Police Chief Leon Charles says eight more suspects are being sought by the Haitian police, and three others have been killed.

“We are going to bring them to justice,” Charles said at a news conference.

The U.S. State Department is aware of the two Haitian-Americans in custody. The two men were identified as James Solages and Joseph Vincent. Solages, 35, is the youngest of the suspects.

“As for whether the suspects were involved in the assassination of the President of Haiti, that will need to be investigated by Haitian police,” said Joanne Ou, Foreign Affairs Spokesperson.

Colombia’s government was asked about the six suspects in Haiti, including two of those killed by Haitian police. It was determined that they were retired members of its army. Their identities were not released.

In Port-au-Prince, witnesses said a crowd discovered two suspects hiding in the bushes, and some people grabbed them by their shirts and pants, pushing and occasionally slapping them.
