Two Queensland Doctors Killed in Fiery Plane Crash
Two doctors from Locum were killed when their small plane crashed near Queensland's Mundubbera Airport at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.
The Bede BD-4 plane had just taken off from the airport when it crashed and exploded into the grounds of the Small Bore Rifle Club. Dan Rainolds, 48, and Myrthe Runne, 37, died on the spot and their bodies were incinerated.
Parts of the plane were thrown up to a distance of 50 metres.
Maryborough police and forensic investigators are on the crash site to learn the cause of the accident.
Rainolds, a Yugoslav, and Runne, a Dutch, work in Monto and were flying home to Warwick for a vacation when their plane crashed.
Health Workforce Queensland chief executive Chris Mitchell described the couple as "two fine rural and remote doctors," according to Fraser Coast Chronicle. The crash victims' colleagues at Monto Family Practice and Central Queensland Rural Division of General Practice are paying tribute to the two.
Monto flyer John MacElroy knows the two as avid flyers.
