In Tyson Chandler's Return To MSG, Dallas Mavericks Crush New York Knicks, 107-87
Another blowout loss for the New York Knicks in what appears to be another lost season. The Dallas Mavericks ran the Knicks to the ground at Madison Square Garden in New York early and never looked back in hacking out a 107-to-87 victory on Tuesday night.
The story of the game is the return of ex-Knick Tyson Chandler to the MSG and he delivered finishing with 8 points and 14 rebounds. Dallas’ offence was scattered on this night with five players— two of them off the bench— scoring in double-figures. Dirk Nowitzki led the team with 16 markers while adding 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Fellow starters Monta Ellis and Chandler Parsons had 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Off the bench, point guards J.J. Barea (10 points) and Devin Harris (11 points) combined for 21 points and 7 assists for Dallas, which led 36-to-24 after the first quarter. The Knicks tried to make it close in the second quarter but the Mavericks pulled away again after the halftime break outscoring New York, 53-43 on the way to the blowout victory.
The Knicks dropped to 5-22 overall for the season and just 3-11 at home. New York has also lost 12 of their last 13 games. The Mavericks have struggled with consistency in December alternating wins and losses since a Dec. 3 win against Milwaukee. Dallas is just 3-3 in their last six games but overall they are 18-8, good for sixth place in the tough Western Conference.
For New York, they had their usual dose of Carmelo Anthony, who ended up with 26 points and 4 steals but once again just did not have support on offence. Defensively, they struggled again, allowing Dallas to shot over 50 per cent from the field and 45.3% from the three-point line.
Upcoming Schedule (Next 3 Games):
Dallas Mavericks: at Detroit Pistons, vs. San Antonio Spurs, vs. Atlanta Hawks
New York Knicks: at Chicago Bulls, vs. Phoenix Suns, at Toronto Raptors
