UAE Police Patrols Dubai in Lamborghinis
Even in western nations, owning a Lamborghini car is a privilege because of its prohibitive price tag of $550,000. However, in oil-rich United Arab Emirates, this vehicle, considered by many as a luxury car, is used by the police to patrol Dubai's streets.
The purchase of the Lamborghini Aventador fleet was first reported by Yahoo Autos. It was initially announced at the Dubai Police Force's Twitter account, @DubaiPoliceHQ, which led to numerous comments under the hash tag #OnlyinDubai.
The luxury vehicle, which has 700 horsepower, is perfect for high-speed car chases which are quite common in the UAE capital city given the different fast race cars that petro dollars could buy Dubai residents since the Aventador can reach 216 miles per hour top speed and could accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds.
The Lamborghini patrol cars aim to reduce the number of over speeding violations made by Dubai motorists since 15 per cent of traffic penalties issued daily are for going beyond the maximum allowable speed limit of 130 mph.
The Italian-made vehicle, which has been customised for highway patrol use, bears the plate number 8 and is painted green and white.
Besides the Lamborghini, the Dubai police will also buy another muscle car made in the U.S., the Camaro, which costs $24,000 to $60,000.
Other than the Dubai police, celebrities who have Lamborghinis include bad boy Chris Brown, wrestler Hulk Hogan and top athlete Cristiano Ronaldo.
