Uber delivers vaccinations to doorstep
Uber, the company that has brought car service to a client’s doorstep will now offer flu shots for one day only on Thursday in the United States. Anyone in the country can avail this service, with a nurse in an Uber car showing up.
For $10, people across the US can receive a “Wellness Pack,” including recyclable water bottle, a tote bag and other supplies without the hassle of going to the doctor’s office or the pharmacy. Up to 10 flu shots can be given at each location without extra charge which will be available between 11 am and 3 pm, the Washington Post reports.
In 2014 , more than 2,000 people were vaccinated. This success prompted Uber and its partners to expand the service to more than 10,000 vaccinations this year.
This project is the brainchild of John Brownstein, a Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital epidemiologist. This was a strategy to provide a more convenient service to patients who would not volunteer to be vaccinated.
According to CDC, only 30 percent of patients aged 18-49 get injected. Brownstein said that this is a hard-to-reach population. Vaccination is not part of their routine, they would not have known about this without the company’s service.
Fortunately for them, life is now easier. They just need to pick up the phone and just tap Uberhealth and vaccination will be on its way.
