Chelsea saw their 9-game unbeaten run, in all competitions, end on Saturday against Newcastle United in the Premier League, while Schalke 04 will be seeking vengeance as they visit Stamford Bridge for a UEFA Champions League clash against the Blues.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho did not hide his disgust with how his team performed during the weekend, stating that the good run of games may have went to his players' heads.

"But I don't want my team to be reactive, this is not the philosophy we are working on, and I'm not happy with the way we played that match, it's as simple as that," Mourinho told chelseafc.com.

In spite of handing Schalke a 3-0 thrashing when they visited the Veltins-Arena a fortnight ago, the Portuguese mentor believes that such would not be much of a factor as the German side is used to winning on the road.

"Not just in the Bundesliga but in European competitions [Schalke] have very good results away - which means they feel much more comfortable playing away than at home. So that's a point and a clear point with statistics," Mourinho told uefa.com.

Mourinho is still puzzled with what the Bundesliga team will employ tactically and reiterated that his team should be prepared to make in-game adjustments.

"I don't know if they come here to win the game clearly or if they come here just to get a point and be very defensive and try to qualify with that point plus the other two matches they have. So we have to be ready for both things, but for sure they are a difficult opponent and the result, 3-0 in Germany, means nothing," he added.

As for Schalke coach Jens Keller, one of the main objectives during the game is to avoid an early Chelsea goal that, in effect, will make his side vulnerable to counterattacks, as was the case in their first group meeting.

He also mentioned about his team proving that they can compete with the so-called "big boys" by coming up with a win or, at the very least, a point.
