UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will reportedly retire after his unification title bout against interim champ Conor McGregor regardless of the result.

In an interview with MMA Plus TV, one of Aldo’s primary training partners, Andy Souwer, said the main event match against McGregor at UFC 194 on Dec. 12 could be the Brazilian fighter’s last bout in the Octagon.

“To be honest, yeah I think,” Souwer disclosed when asked whether UFC 194 would be Aldo’s last fight of his career.

Souwer also believes Aldo would be successful in unifying the featherweight title belts, and he predicted it would be a “fairytale story” for “Scarface,” who is unbeaten for 10 years.

Aldo, 29, is still considered in the prime of his career, although the Brazilian featherweight has already been fighting for over a decade. Aldo’s match against McGregor will be the former’s 27th bout, and arguably, it will be his toughest and biggest match.

Aldo and McGregor were supposed to meet in July, but a rib injury forced the former to withdraw from the fight. Ever since their postponed match, Aldo and McGregor have been engaged in a war of words, with the “Notorious” getting the most of the opportunities to play mind games.

However, Aldo does not seem too daunted with the Irishman’s antics. He said he will “run through” McGregor, insisting that his upcoming fight would be no different from his previous matches.

"Another win. No reason to be different," Aldo said, reports MMA Fighting. “The only difference is that I always fought against Americans, and now I’m beating up an Irishman."

Aldo was the favourite to win their match at UFC 189, but ahead of the their unification title bout, the Brazilian is now the underdog in the eyes of oddsmakers.
