UFC News: Conor McGregor Knows He Will Win Featherweight Title, Already Planning Defence And Move Up To Lightweight In 2015
If you are an avid follower of mixed martial arts and the name Conor McGregor does not ring a bell, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. Zooming into the top of the list of new names in the UFC is the trash-talking, striking and ambitious Irishman who is willing to make a big, big name for him and his country.
After four fights, McGregor has also shot to top contender status many thanks to his bravado. UFC President has already announced that the Irishman will challenge the winner of the Chad Mendes and Jose Aldo rematch happening this month. Yet ,McGregor's plan and ambitions do not stop in being a contender and snatching the belt in the featherweight class, he yearns for more.
"If you do what you say you're going to do, look what happens? I've skipped the queue and now I'm the world title contender, I'm number one contender," McGregor told Severe MMA. "My next fight is most likely going to be for the title. After that there will be no catching me."
Not only that, he believes that winning the featherweight belt is a foregone conclusion even he has not touched the Octagon with either Aldo or Mendes. The Fighting Irish envisions the belt hanging by his waists by early 2015 and is already planning a title defence in the summer with Dublin's 50,000 seat Aviva Stadium in mind. He does not stop there as he will entertain a move up to 155 lbs. and contest for the lightweight division title. "Notrious" is said to be looking at Anthony Pettis as a possible partner for a super-fight at the lightweight class.
At a ripe 26 years of age, McGregor chimed that it is not possible for him to stay at the featherweight class. The plans of Aldo may align with the schedule of Aldo, if ever the reigning champion retains his belt. But this early, the current champion and the challenger, Mendes have expressed discontent on how the UFC has been building up the Irishman. Aldo has been quoted as saying it is "disrespectful" to include McGregor in the discussions when his upcoming fight with Mendes has not yet been settled.
