UFC star Conor McGregor will appear on 'Game of Thrones'
It was confirmed on Wednesday that Conor McGregor will appear on Season 7 of "Game of Thrones." On Monday, the Northern Ireland newspaper and The Sunday Life reported that McGregor had been “headhunted” by a “GoT” director who wanted him to make a cameo in one of the remaining two seasons.
Dana White, the UFC president, told on a Fox Sports live interview that he already shot some scenes with McGregor. “I knew that a few months ago that they were interested in putting him in the show. I’m glad he did it. It’ll be great. The show is huge. It’s awesome, and I’m excited for him.” However, the role that he is rumoured to play in "Game of Thrones" is far from what you would expect the fighter to be cast as.
According to a source at Watchers on the Wall, McGregor will be a crew member on Euron Greyjoy’s ship, the Silence. They posted on the GoT community site that his part is a fairly small one, a cameo, so fans, who are worried about his acting ability, need not sweat it. There is no speaking involved with this part, and it’s definitely a short-term gig. It is called the Silence because Euron cuts the tongues out of everyone who crews the ship.
This isn’t the first time that McGregor had an acting job. The fighter also leant his voice in an acting talent to Activision earlier this year for "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare." He’s also done voice acting for "EA Sports UFC 2," where he played himself.
"Game of Thrones" will return for a seventh season on June 2017.
McGregor continues to steal the headlines in UFC after knocking out Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. The MMA superstar is said to be planning at least a year off after UFC 205 but would then come back for a mega money fight. His reason for taking time off is because he feels it is the right time to settle down with his long-term love, Dee Devlin.
