"Alien base on the moon" sounds like an element of science fiction. But to UFO watchers and people bent on presenting evidence of extraterrestrial life, proof is everywhere. Consider a man's insight to an old lunar photo from NASA's Apollo Image Atlas.

This photo is viewable on the Lunar Planetary Institute (LPI) web site. It is part of the Mare Serenitatis, which, to common folk is the lunar spot seen as one of the eyes of the "man in the moon."

The usual mounts and craters are present in the image above. But an advocate for UFO and alien life awareness focuses on the shape covered by the first crosshair to the left of the image. He calls it an "alien base on the moon." (Follow this link to the LPI gallery. This link goes to a high-res version.) What do you see?

"I was looking over old Apollo photos when I [came] across this one that looks like a definite structure created by intelligent beings. The circle structure has an arm the goes off to a four leaf clover-like area with buildings on it. This is really strange and I ask that others look into this," writes Scott Waring on his blog, UFO Sightings Daily. Can you see the buildings, too?

Waring mentioned the case of hacker Gary McKinnon, who is accused of hacking into 97 computers belonging to U.S. military and NASA, from early 2001 to early 2002.

"The hacker Gary McKinnon said in an interview that he hacked into US military computers and saw first hand documents that stated the US military has off world officers stationed on an alien base, and since the moon is the closest celestial body it has to be there," reads Waring's blog entry.

You may or may not interpret the lunar image the same way Waring did. But this is an example of the kind of "lunar mysteries" that tickle the imagination of many.
