UK Auction Sells John Lennon’s Jacket
An admirer of John Lennon purchased a jacket which was owned by the Beatles star for about AUD12,300 (STG7000). The rare jacket was sold at an auction recently. An anonymous woman bought the same to gift it to her husband on his birthday. Nevertheless, she expressed her extreme delight for the purchase. She has apparently got a collection of Beatles memorabilia already. She says that the John Lennon is going to be an important part of it.
The blue jacket that belonged to the legendary musician dates back to 1960s. It has been expected that the jacket would fetch at least STG8000. Additionally, it has also been assumed that it would be no wonder if the jacket fetches STG12,000.
The jacket is three quarter in length with a mandarin collar and there is a little flare on the sleeves. The jacket has got the statement of originality. On the other hand, the jacket seems to have been used regularly as there was a tear on its left sleeve.
The jacket is Nehru-styled and was left by Lennon at his home in England as he was moving to the U.S. in 1971. The jacket was acquired by Jo Jo Johns, a dear friend of Lennon, when he tried clearing the house of the icon. Johns was also the personal assistant of the Beatles. He worked at the Central London offices between 1968 and 1975. It was only in 1970s, the jacket was given to Anthony Goddard, a friend of Jo Jo Johns, as a gift on his birthday.
Lennon's journey to U.S. seemed to be a one way trip as he never returned to his England home ever since. Arguably the most iconic song penned by Lennon, "Imagine", was composed in the famous White Room in Tittenhurst.
Lennon's second solo album too was titled "Imagine". The album was recorded in the stunning Georgian house where he created two films as well. When Lennon vacated his property, he left almost everything behind for Johns. He allowed Johns to give away or discard his possession.
