UK Study Says Average Length Of Erect Penis Is 5.2 Inches, 3.6 Inches When Flaccid
Since some men are insecure about the size of their genital, British researchers made a study on the length and girth of the penis when erect and flaccid. The study had over 15,000 male respondents from different parts of the world.
And the average length is 13.12 centimetres or about 5.2 inches when erect, while the average girth is 11.62 centimetres or 4.6 inches. In a flaccid state, the average length is 9.16 centimetres or 3.6 inches and girth is 9.31 centimetres or 3.7 inches.
The measurements were done by professionals, said the British researchers, which should help large majority of the male population be reassured that most of them are within the normal range.
The insecurity, said Dr David Veale, the lead author and affiliated with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London and South London, comes when “Men compare themselves in locker rooms and with pornography on the internet and believe they are inferior,” quotes Daily Mail.
Another source is being teased by a sexual partner about their size, adds Veale who is also connected with Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
The respondents were from age 17 to 91 whose phalluses were measured in 20 studies previously made in Europe, Asia, Africa and the US.
The researchers then made a graph of the sizes to help doctors use for counselling males who have “small penis anxiety.” They pointed that for such males, on a worst case scenario, those who have been diagnosed with Body Dysmorphic Disorder – a psychological condition – could become obsessive and anti-social, depressed and suicidal, reports news.com.au.
Based on the graph, only 2.8 percent suffer from abnormally small penis, while the same percent of men enjoy having an unusually large male genital. The study debunked perception that Caucasians have bigger penises than other races, although the authors admit that one limitation of their research is that majority of the participants were men from Europe and the Middle East and the respondents are possibly men who were willing to have it measured because of their confidence in their size.
It also thumbed down a common belief that men with large feet also have long penis.
The study was published in the BJU International Journal of Urology.
