Unbroken 2014: Top Reasons Australia is the Best Place for Angelina Jolie to Film Second Directorial Project [PHOTOS]
The buzz gets louder that Angelina Jolie is eyeing Australia to direct her second film. Executives from various film agencies Down Under hint negotiations are under way in the hopes that the A-list actress and director chose one of the great cities Down Under for her drama film, Unbroken.
Why Australia is perfect for Angelina’s second directorial film?
The vast horizon in many places in Australia is perfect for the upcoming World War II movie. It is based on the bestselling novel by Laura Hillenbrand titled Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption.
The film looks into the life of Olympic track star athlete and war hero, Louie Zamperini. The storyline is focused on those 47 days he had suffered after his air force plane crashed in the Pacific waters in 1943. With no food or water, the film takes a look back at those days of suffering and survival from the external challenges he faced as he made his way to land, albeit a prisoner.
Australia is perfect for the execution of the conflicts in the film.
Zamperini’s is a gripping story of his survival from shark attacks as well as aerial attacks. But above all, the beautiful country of Australia is the perfect image and representation of irony as he fought hunger under the captivity of the Japanese soldiers.
Top places vying to get the nod as location for Unbroken (2014).
Sydney and Queensland are both keen on the opportunity to see their beautiful cities in Angelina’s next film.
It looks like the Pitt-Jolie clan are really in to making Australia their next temporary home. Brad Pitt had earlier been reported in talks to film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in Sydney. And since rumours had died since after his stay in Australia for his World War Z film, it was Jolie’s turn to take a look.
The actress made a quick trip to Sydney and Gold Coast last week, giving hints of her great interest to film her next project.
Between Sydney and Gold Coast, it has been reported that the latter may have more to offer for Angelina’s team. The filming team currently scouting locations in the cities have found interest in a studio water tank and jungle locations on the Gold Coast. And the Sydney Morning Herald asserted that Queensland appears to be a more favourite for Angie’s next directorial film.
However, concerns have been raised about finances. The Australian dollar could be seen as an external challenge and there could be a need to ask for support from the Australian city governments to cover some of the expenses.
Officials from the Screen NSW executives are set to sit down with studio officials regarding financial incentives and deals that attracted other films such as The Great Gatsby and The Wolverine.
A representative from the Universal Studio confirmed that Angie’s team has been scouting for on location shoot “but no decisions have been made and locations have not yet been confirmed,” said SMH.
Meanwhile, Angie is determined to film Zamperini’s story and it is likely to take place in perfect locations.
“I've had the privilege of spending a great deal of time with Louie Zamperini, who is a hero of mine, and now — I proud to say — a dear friend,” Jolie was quoted as saying in a statement.
She added, “I am deeply honoured to be telling his extraordinary story, and I will do my absolute best to give him the film he deserves.”
Filming for Zamperini’s life begins late September 2013 and the initial date for the release of Unbroken has been set in December 2014.
