'Uncharted 4' Gets Director with 'Mass Effect' and 'Assassin’s Creed' Experience, Speculated for E3 2014 Reveal
Naughty Dog may be progressing forward, as the studio has recently hired a new animation director for "Uncharted 4."
The new face to join the "Uncharted" and "Crash Bandicoot" developer is Jonathan Cooper. But he is in no way a new face in the gaming industry.
According to GameSpot, Cooper came from Ubisoft Montreal, the studio in charge of "Assassin's Creed III" (where he served as animation director) and "Watch Dogs." He was also the lead animator for two "Mass Effect" games.
"When working at an art-centric studio such as Ubisoft Montreal I had been hard-pressed to find anywhere that takes video game animation as seriously as there, but I've long held Naughty Dog up as a titan in video game animation, ultimately being won over by their game-changing work on The Last of Us," said Cooper in a statement quoted by GameSpot.
"It's no understatement to say, in my opinion, that that game has set a new standard for tone and characterisation in video games," he added.
As one of the most anticipated game on the PS4, "Uncharted 4" seemed to be in some kind of danger or standstill after news started popping up about departures of certain employees. It was first started by Amy Hennig, creative director for the "Uncharted" series, who was reported to have been supposedly forced out of the studio. Eurogamer adds this has led to the "Uncharted 4" game for the PS4 coming to the control of Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley.
The other name to join the list is Justin Richmond, the game director for "Uncharted" on PS4 as he went on to join Riot Games. US Gamer reports this departure was not only a source of worry for "Uncharted" fans, but Sony fans, in general, as other studios were experiencing departures, including those from Sony Santa Monica, Evolution Studios, Guerrilla Games and Sucker Punch Productions.
But with Cooper joining Naughty Dog, it may be a matter of time until fans start reading about new hires for other Sony studios.
E3 2014 Reveal Alongside Other Next-gen Games
With just a little over a month to go before the awaited E3 2014 event, leaks and information from industry insiders have started to abound. The waited "Uncharted 4" game has not been spared.
Now Gamer reports on the newest predictions of insider Ahsan Rasheed, a.k.a. Thuway, on what to expect for the E3 2014. It seems top of the list of leaks is the fact that the new "Uncharted" will be unveiled at the event, though there is also talk of the next-gen version of "Deus Ex" and the next "Mass Effect" also slated for a reveal.
Some new details for the games include the fact "Mass Effect" won't continue the iteration at "Mass Effect 4," while a PS4 upcoming exclusive has suggested an Eastern influence. But before fans can speculate if this is additional tidbit about "Uncharted 4," Thuway was quick to shoot it down, saying that it is not a Naughty Dog game.
