‘Under The Dome’ Premieres Recap: Top Questions Asked Following Mystery Show’s Big Hit CBS Summer Debut [VIDEO]
Summer is never going to be dry for CBS mystery and eerie series Under the Dome when it debuted with the astounding and surprising 13.1 million viewers, capturing audience between 18-49 demographics, with 3.2 ratings in its premiere on Monday, June 24.
The series is an adaptation of Stephen King’s science fiction novel of the same title, and its strong debut marked the first highest rating show on television since NBC’s The Spring Bee in 2007. The show was a sure hit, but will it sustain until the end of the season?
While Under the Dome has kept its now new-found millions of followers at bay, more questions have come out and most of them will sure come back next week to find answers to these questions:
What is “under the dome?”
The first few scenes of the show featured how the Dome came to the Chester’s Mill. With a graphic image of a cow sliced in half, the scene established the location of the dome and what it looks like, and maybe, what it felt like. The candy stripper, Angie, described it like “a giant fishbowl.”
Who created it? Was it an act of terror? Or an act of God? These were the reverberating questions in the minds of the people of Chester’s Mill. There is fear that it will annihilate everyone, with 12 fatalities on Day 1 it appeared in the town.
If appeared out of thin air in the middle of the day, will it also disappear on its own? Or does it need a government intervention or natural means to free the people of Chester’s Mill?
Will the town’s radio engineer Dodee Weaver (Jolene Purdy) be able to help solve the puzzle? In the first episode, Dodee captured a distinct sound and she seemed to believe it has something to do with the invisible dome.
How long will they be in the dark, literally? Will the people of Chester’s Mill rely on candles until the puzzle is solved? Will more people die when not attended by the medical experts at the hospital, like the daughter of an entertainment attorney Carolyn Hill, played by Aisha Hinds? Hill’s partner, Alice, expressed concern over not being able to fly their daughter out of town for treatment after she suffered from seizures.
What’s happening on the other side of the dome? Can it be reached and how? The dome destroys everything in its path: from planes to road vehicles.
Who are the keyplayers? Who are the eroes? Who are the bad guys? Who will benefit from it? Will there be any benefit? Or is it the beginning of an end for the people of Chester’s Mill?
Why Chester’s Mill?
These are among the top questions likely asked after Under the Dome had its surprising hit debut early this week.
But there are other elements in the TV series that could keep the people coming back for more. More questions that could solve the puzzle that rocked the people of Chester’s Mill, the United States of America and inevitably the whole world.
Love, Sex and Violence
As if ensuring that Under the Dome has the formula needed to a success like it has for the premiere episode, the show’s creators made sure to include love, sex and violence. But the interesting twist in this mystery drama, these three formula for success is seen emanating from one character only: Junior Rennie (Alexander Koch.)
As part of the sequences establishing the storyline for Season 1, one of scenes in the first ten minutes of Episode 1 featured Rennie in bed with his girlfriend, Angie McAlister, the candy striper played by beautiful Britt Robertson. The hot sex turned into violence in a split second, establishing Junior’s mental instability. Is he really unstable? Or as suggested in the ending of Episode 1, does he really know what’s going on? Does he have all the answers to these questions?
Stay tuned. 'Under The Dome' airs on CBS, Mondays, 10/9c.
