It was expected that not every character will be standing alive at the end of "Under the Dome" Season 2. However, there was no hint that Big Jim would kill Rebecca and Andrea. Pauline wanted to be released from her pain. She believed that the dome wanted her to pay for her sins. Pauline convinced Rebecca to help her. An injection speeded up the death of Pauline. The death of Pauline transformed Big Jim into a murderous demon. He knocked out Rebecca with a hammer, which killed her. He gave dome three seconds to bring his wife back to life, which did not happen. Big Jim burned down all the paintings of Pauline and put his house on fire, making it a pyre for his wife. He walked out, with the intention to kill the special friends of the dome.

Joe, Norrie and Hunter discovered that there is a tunnel inside the crater. They saw a monarch there, as well. The trio returned to the ground believing that there was a way out of the dome, which continued to contract inside and there was lightening, as well. Barbie and Julia made the arrangements to bring all the people at the location of the crater. Julia received a call from Andrea on her walkie-talkie and when she went to check on her, she saw Big Jim there pointing a gun at Andrea. As Andrea was his neighbour, he put a bullet in her head, giving her an easy death but for Julia, he wanted to use his hammer. Julia managed to escape from there and reached the location of the crater. Junior got to know what happened and he went in the woods to stop his father, while Julia went ahead to join Barbie and the rest of the people inside the crater.

Barbie was waiting for Julia. However, there was a chasm to cross to move ahead and that got widened when it was Julia's turn to jump over. With an injured leg, she was unable to cross it and join Barbie who was standing on the other side. Julia asked Barbie to go ahead and lead the people outside the dome. Junior joined Julia after he shot his father. The bullet hit Big Jim's shoulder. The trees fell on the crater, closing the opening. Big Jim was walking towards it like a man possessed.

Barbie led the people to an end that was covered with monarch butterflies. They all flew away, revealing that it was a dead-end. Norrie had a little outburst, asking the dome to help. A monarch appeared and Barbie touched the portion where the monarch had rested for less than a second. Barbie's touch made the dead-end crack open and on the other side, there was bright light. Melanie appeared and said, "follow me, we're going home."
