'Under The Dome' Renewed For Season 3
CBS has renewed its science-fiction drama series "Under the Dome" for Season 3. The Season 2 of the series, which is based on Stephen King's book of the same name, was the summer's top scripted show.
According to CBS, nearly 11 million viewers, 2.7/08 in adults 18-49 and 3.6/10 in adults 25-54, tuned in to watch Season 2 of the show. In addition to the broadcast on the network, "Under the Dome," also had additional viewing on Amazon's Prime Instant Video.
"We're committed to delivering our viewers and advertisers year-round programming with a wide variety of storytelling," said Nina Tassler, Chairman at CBS Entertainment. "We continue to see summer as a great place for unique concepts, innovative business models and passionate television audiences."
The fans of "Under the Dome" were expecting another season of the show, as Season 2 ended on multiple cliff-hangers. The final-episode, "Go Now," ended on Melanie appearing, surrounded by bright light, on the other side of the wall -- which opened when Barbie touched it -- saying "follow me, we're going home." Also in the episode, Big Jim killed Rebecca and Andrea, after Pauline died [in the penultimate episode, she was stabbed by Lyle]. Big Jim wanted to kill the special friends of the dome. Julia managed to escape. Later, Junior shot his dad [bullet hit his shoulder] in the woods and stopped him from reaching the opening of the crater. The earthquakes widened a gap in the floor and Julia was unable to join rest of the residents. She could not cross the gap because of her bad leg. She asked Barbie to lead the people out. He went ahead promising to come back for her. Junior soon joined Julia.
Neal Baer, executive producer of the show, had previously said that he has a plan for two to five seasons of the show. He said to Assignment X, "We have great adventures ahead. We've set it up so we can keep going. We have a lot of stories left to tell."
"Under the Dome" Season 3 is expected to premiere sometime in summer 2015. In addition to this show, "CBS" has also renewed "Extant" for Season 2.
