Underwater Cave Claims Another Diver’s Life
The Tank Cave in Southern Australia claimed the life of another diver after police recovered Sunday the body of a 40-year-old man in a portion of the dark and labyrinthine underwater cave.
Police only identified the dead victim as a resident of Victoria pending notification of his family.
"No names or details can be released at this stage, but you will be informed once the family has been notified and release of these details is cleared by the police," the Cave Divers Association of Australia said in a statement Sunday, according to the Herald Sun. The association owns the eight-kilometre cave near Mt. Gambier.
The man was reported missing around 3:45 p.m. His body was found shortly after the search.
The death is the second in Tank Cave this year. In February, also on a Sunday, renowned Melbourne diver Agnes Milowka, 29, drowned inside the cave when she ran out of air after being separated from her diving companion.
Police divers found Milowka's body under 20 metres of water about 550 metres from the entrance of the cave.
