Underwear, Makeup & Bra: Islamic State Recruits Make List Of Items To Carry Before Leaving For Syria
Three U.K. girls, suspected to have left for Syria to join Islamic State forces, apparently left a handwritten shopping checklist for their travel. The list of things includes underwear, bras, boots and an epilator.
The shopping checklist looks more like the one teenagers make before going for a vacation than the one potential extremists make before joining militant forces. However, The Guardian observes that the list complies with an online guide for potential recruits, as provided by IS fighters.
The British teenagers, who have allegedly travelled from London to Turkey in February, are identified as Shamima Begum (15), Kadiza Sultana (16) and Amira Abase (15). The Bethnal Green Academy girls are believed to join extremist forces in the Middle East. They were described as good students who ran away during a half-term break. They are believed to have taken a flight from Gatwick to Turkey and crossed the border to enter Syria.
According to the costing in the checklist, the girls had to make sure that they had enough money for the trip. Their families, on the other hand, said that they had no idea where the girls had got the money from. The grand total on the list is written as 2,190, appearing in pounds sterling.
Two different people seemed to have written the list on a page from a planner and diary. The initials of the girls are written on the list to indicate who was supposed to buy what. A £50 epilator, a £75 phone, £4 socks and two sets of underwear for £12 are among the items to be bought. The list also includes boots, makeup and a bra.
A different handwriting is seen on the list that takes note of the expenses for travelling to turkey and then to Syria. The expenses include a hotel for one or two nights, a coach, a taxi and visas. The expenses also include some extra cash.
The girls were captured in CCTV footage after they arrived in Istanbul. They were seen waiting at a bus station. They are believed to have waited for 18 hours at the bus station after their flight landed.
