In a show of alliance rarely seen in any global front, the labour union movement at Australia's NSW has joined forces with the state's local business groups to support the creation of what could be Sydney's second airport at Badgerys Creek Rd.

NSW's business and union leaders met on Thursday to discuss the probability and potentially good futures the second airport could bring to both groups.

Not only will it create more commercial opportunities for those around the area, but guaranteed jobs will likewise be available once Sydney's second airport at Badgerys Creek Rd becomes operational.

On Thursday night, leaders of 60 NSW Labor-affiliated unions, which represent 600,000 workers, voted overwhelmingly to endorse the Badgerys Creek option, as well as passed a motion to actively campaign for the project.

"Unions NSW notes the growing debate in the community regarding a second Sydney Airport based in western Sydney, and the failure of state and federal governments over the last 30 years to address this issue," the motion said.

"Unions NSW believes that a second airport for Sydney is a necessity by 2030 to ensure the city has the capacity to meet its growing aviation needs.

"A second airport in western Sydney will meet this need and give an enormous boost to jobs and the economy in the region both in the construction and operation phase.

"To this end Unions NSW supports proposals for a new airport at Badgerys Creek."

Mark Lennon, head of Unions New South Wales, however clarified there is no formal agreement signed whatsoever with the business group.

"There's no doubt that there's a few people out there in the community who've got a similar point of view, but there's no formal alliance," he said.

"What we want to do is firstly get out there ourselves and talk to the community about it, and continue to talk to our membership about our issue.

The creation of second airport for NSW had long been an issue. Anthony Albanese, federal transport minister, has supported a second Sydney airport but Premier Barry O'Farrell wants it at Canberra, connected by a fast-rail link between the national capital and Sydney.

"We need to ignite the debate once again about the proper site, and if you look at all the evidence from experts, Badgerys Creek seems to be the best option," Mr Lennon said.

"Having an airport with all the complementary industry that that brings with it, we think will create a great opportunity for jobs."

Ever since it was first flaunted, the local business groups have been vocal and supportive of the plan to locate the second airport at Badgerys Creek Rd.

Not only will the new airport generate jobs, it will likewise create parallel opportunities to other endeavours such as to NSW's real estate sector.

The new airport would also push property prices up, Gary Cowgill, Manager of Nando's Meat Market and who lives in nearby St Clair, told the Daily Telegraph.
