Every year, more and more films are being made out of novels and memoirs, and 2014 is no exception. So for bookworms and movie fans out there, it's time to read these books and take down a few notes -- it will come handy once these titles become movies, either this year or the next.

1. Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James

About the Book: The wildy popular erotic trilogy follows the 'complicated' love affair between businessman Christian Grey and graduating college student Anastasia Steele.

About the Movie: Production is currently underway, with Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. Supporting cast members include Rita Ora, Luke Grimes and Eloise Mumford. Release is on February 14, 2015.

2. Serena by Ron Rash

About the Book: Newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton moves to North Carolina to build a timber empire. Their marriage goes well until Serena learns she can't have children.

About the Movie: Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper has been working on the movie right after Silver Linings Playbook, but filming dragged on to 18 months due to the meticulous editing required by director Susanne Bier. The film will be out in theaters some time in April this year.

3. The Rules of Inheritance by Claire Bidwell Smith

About the Book: Claire Bidwell Smith writes a memoir about her journey to self-discovery from the time she learns of her parents' terminal illness until they finally succumbed to the disease.

About the Movie: Jennifer Lawrence stars and produces the film adaptation of memoir, and she reunites with Susanne Bier as the latter directs the film. The production team is aiming for a theatrical release within the year.

4. The Glass Castleb by Jeannette Walls

About the Book: Gossip columnist Jeannette Walls writes about her life in Virginia as she grows up in a 'dysfunctional but vibrant' family.

About the Movie: J-Law (again!) stars and produces the film adaptation with Gil Netter as co-producer. No further details is available as of the moment aside from the 2015 target release date.

5. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame Smith

About the Film: The author of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter retells the Jane Austen classic with Elizabeth Bennet visualized as a zombie slayer.

About the Movie: After much speculation on the fate of this book's film adaptation Lily Collins of The Mortal Instruments finally hopped onboard as its lead actress. Natalie Portman was initially slated for the lead role, however, she backed out due to scheduling conflicts but remained in the movie as producer.

6. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

About the Book: The Mary Shelley classic tells the story of scientist Victor Frankenstein who wants to recreate a human being out his knowledge in science, but instead creates a monster.

About the Movie: The newest retelling of the story in film is told in the eyes of Victor's assistant Igor, played by Daniel Radcliffe. He even had hair extensions attached to prepare for this role.

7. Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst

About the Book: The best way to know the plot of this children's book without spoilers is by looking at its title. Simply put, it's about a boy named Alexander who had a, well, extremely bad day.

About the Movie: Young Aussie actor Ed Oxenbould plays the titular role, and Steve Carrell and Jennifer Garner joins the movie as his parents. The film will be out in theaters October 10, 2014

8. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

About the Book: Clay Jensen gets hold of cassette tapes which contains voice recordings of Hannah Baker, his classmate who recently committed suicide. In the recordings, she enumerated 13 reasons why she took her life, including Clay himself.

About the Movie: Selena Gomez has been chosen to play Hannah Baker ever since Universal picked up the novel to be adapted into a movie in 2011. The role of Clay Jensen is yet to be cast.

9. A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby

About the Book: Four strangers plan to commit suicide at a building in London on New Year's Eve. Their plans, however, were ruined when these four people met on that building.

About the Movie: Pierce Brosnan, Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots and Toni Collette were chosen to play the four people who met at the Toppers' House. Filming has just ended last November, and is set for release some time this year.

10. The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

About the Book: Erik Larson intertwined the true stories of Daniel H. Burnham, the creator of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the serial killer who used the event to lure his victims.

About the Movie: Leonardo diCaprio has purchased the film rights way back in 2010, and he is also set to play the role of Dr. Holmes. Graham Moore, on the other hand, is assigned to write the script.
