Writer for comic and television, Dwayne McDuffie has died of complications after surgery, said his publisher, DC Comics Tuesday. Known for his work as co-creator of Emmy Award TV Series, “Static Shock”, Reuters confirmed that McDuffie died at 49, as stated on the official website of Comic Book Resources.

Reuters noted however that the cause of death has remained undetermined.

“Dwayne McDuffie left a lasting legacy on the world of comics that many writers can only aspire to”, Reuters quoted Dan DiDio as saying.

The co-publisher of DC Comics media division DC entertainment, DiDio highlighted McDuffie’s contribution in a statement released Tuesday.

DiDio said, “He will not only be remembered as the extremely gifted writer whose scripts have been realized as comic books, in television shows and on the silver screen. But as the creator or co-creator of so many of the much-loved Milestone characters, including Static Schock.”

A native of Detroit, Michigan, McDuffie, noted Reuters cou-founded Mileston Media. He was the story editor and co-creator of “Static Shock”. The comic writer was recognized for his work on “Static Shock” script, “Jimmy”, and received the Humanitas Prize in 2003.
