"House of Cards" has taken watching TV in a whole new level. For one thing, viewers of the new highly acclaimed U.S. drama series aren't watching it on the small screen, but rather online.

All 13 episodes of the drama were uploaded to the Netflix Web site for the U.S. audience to download and watch starting February 1. Members of the Internet streaming site can either watch the series one episode at a time or finish the whole season at once.

Main star Kevin Spacey says their show's unusual scheme will become the norm in the near future.

"It's sort of the way that audiences are watching TV now," he was quoted by The Age as saying. "They consume in large chunks. They stay home all weekend and watch three seasons of Breaking Bad. And I think that we are primed to fit into that particular wheelhouse."

To keep their viewers interested, they need to incorporate intrigue in their storyline, saying, "As each episode is viewed... more and more will get revealed and more and more will get held back. We want our audience to be intrigued and to want to know more."

The political drama series is an adaptation of a '90s U.K. miniseries of the same name, which was based on the novel by Michael Dobbs. It stars Spacey as Frank Underwood, a Democrat and the House Majority Whip who, all throughout the show, extracts his revenge on the elected President and everyone who betrayed him after he get passed over for appoint to Secretary of State.

Netflix isn't available in Australia, but Foxtel has also adopted a similar distribution method.

The show will premiere on Showcase on Tuesday, May 7, but viewers will have the option to watch the entire season at once via Foxtel Go and Foxtel On Demand from that date.

Producer Beau Willimon is certain that "Any distinction between TV and the Internet will fall away within five years. Everything will be streamed by then."

"House of Cards" also stars Robin Wright, Kate Mara, Corey Stoll, Michael Kelly, Sakin Jaffrey, Kristen Connolly, and Constance Zimmer. The second season is currently in production.
