US Governor Scott Walker Says He Is ‘Unsure’ If Obama Is A Christian
Scott Walker said on Saturday that he was not sure if U.S. President Barack Obama was Christian or not. The Wisconsin Governor is a prospective Republican presidential contender.
Walker said that, even though he was aware of Obama talking frequently of his Christian faith, he was not sure if he followed the religion. Walker was speaking in an interview at the JW Marriott hotel in Washington as he attended the winter meeting of the National Governors Association.
Walker said that he had never talked about or read about Obama’s religious inclinations. “I’ve never asked him that,” Walker said, “You’ve asked me to make statements about people that I haven’t had a conversation with about that.” He added that it was a “classic example” of why people would hate Washington and dislike the press. He said that the things people cared about did not even remotely come close to what the press was asking about.
According to Walker, American people do not care about Obama’s religious faith. He said that it was the media which judged people, not the common public. He said that he would defy the press to come to Wisconsin as none of its residents would consider it as a significant issue. Walker added that such questions did not reflect a broader problem in the nation’s political-media culture.
Walker’s spokeswoman later told the Post that the governor was trying not to answer such questions by principle. She said that Walker was not casting any doubt on the U.S. president’s faith. The spokeswoman added that Walker was sure of the president’s Christian’s faith. Walker just thinks such questioned distract from what he’s doing as governor of Wisconsin to make the state better and make life better for people in his state, she said.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani earlier attended an event and said that he was not sure of Obama’s patriotism. Walker was also present at the event. Giuliani said that he was not sure if Obama loved his country. Democrats took offence at Giuliani’s comment and asked the potential Republican presidential candidates to condemn Giuliani for his comments.
