US Open 2015: Murray v Mannarino preview
Andy Murray saw off young Australian Nick Kyrgios on day two of the 2015 US Open. Murray won a thrilling match against the Canberra-native 7-5 6-3 4-6 6-1. The third seed Briton will take on Frenchman Adrian Mannarino for a place in the third round at Flushing Meadows.
Murray kicked off his US Open campaign against Kyrgios in the night session at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday, extending his head-to-head series over the Australian to 4-0. The British tennis star, who recently claimed his fourth title this season at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, fired a total of 18 aces during the match. He scored 46 winners and 23 unforced errors as opposed to Kyrgios’ 42 and 39.
The 2012 US Open champion is braced for another contest as he continues his bid to win another title at Flushing Meadows. He faces Mannarino, who advanced after winning over Russian qualifier Konstantin Kravchuk 7-6 6-4 6-1. This is the second time that Murray and Mannarino will meet on tour, first time on a grand slam event. Their only previous meeting took place in the hard courts at Indian Wells this season.
Mannarino, 23-22 this season, admitted tough test with the World No. 3. However, the Frenchman remains optimistic and hopes that he will be able to play better tennis than the last time in his second-round match. “Last time, he was clearly better than me,” Mannarino is quoted by BBC Sport. “It’s going to be very complicated, but I’ll try my best.”
The Frenchman reached the second round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year. He was eliminated in the first round with loss to Jurgen Melzer 7-6 6-3 7-6 at the French Open. Mannarino reached the third round of the US Open in 2013 and 2014.
Murray and Mannarino will play their second-round match at Arthur Ashe Stadium on day four of the 2015 US Open. Murray leads their series 1-0.
