The final of the U.S. Open women’s singles has gone as expected as top seeds Serena Williams from the United States of America and Victoria Azarenka from Belarus made the championship round of the last Grand Slam of the year.

The 2013 U.S. Open was full of upsets, and both Williams and Azarenka avoided them in style especially in the semifinal round when both ladies won via straight sets. The American beat China’s Li Na, 6-0, 6-3, while the Belarusian defeated Italy’s Flavia Pennetta, 6-4, 6-2 to arrange a rematch of the 2012 U.S. Open Final.

Williams, who is also ranked #1 in the World Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, has yet to drop a set in this tournament. In six matches thus far, she has won 72 games and has only lost 16.

Azarenka, who is #2 in the WTA rankings, had a bit of trouble in a couple of matches. She lost the first sets of her matches in the Round of 32 vs. France’s Alzie Cornet and Round of 16 vs. Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic. But both times she pulled off the comeback and came out with the victory.

Williams holds the edge in their head-to-head battle winning twelve of 15 matches against the Belarusian.

However, Azarenka has won two of the last 3 meetings. Both wins came in 2013.
