US President Barack Obama Criticises Ray Rice, Calls Baltimore Ravens Star ‘Not A Real Man’
Ray Rice is getting criticised by the entire National Football League (NFL), its players and its fans. The Baltimore Ravens running back can’t escape more condemnation as the president of the United States of America (USA) Barack Obama also sent an official statement disparaging Rice and his actions.
“The president is the father of two daughters. And like any American, he believes that domestic violence is contemptible and unacceptable in a civilized society,” said an official statement from the White House on Tuesday.
“Hitting a woman is not something a real man does, and that’s true whether or not an act of violence happens in the public eye, or, far too often, behind closed doors. Stopping domestic violence is something that’s bigger than football — and all of us have a responsibility to put a stop to it,” continued the strongly-worded statement from the most powerful man in the United States.
Aside from President Obama, Ray Rice has also been criticised by current and former NFL players and other celebrities.
Ray Rice was previously suspended by just two games by the NFL but that was before a second video of the incident with then fiancée Janay Palmer was released publicly.
Palmer released her own statement on Monday via an Instagram post calling the latest development “a horrible nightmare”
The first video, released earlier in 2014, showed Ray Rice dragging the now Mrs. Janay Palmer being dragged from an elevator. The second video, publicly showed last Monday, was more graphic: Rice punching Janay multiple times and knocking her out unconscious inside the elevator during an argument.
The NFL has stated that they did not see the second video before they gave the 2-game suspension as penalty. The Baltimore Ravens, Rice’s professional team since has since 2008, cut Rice from their roster and the league has levied an indefinite suspension against the 27-year-old running back.
