U.S. President Barack Obama has agreed to test his survival skills with none other than British adventurer Bear Grylls for his show, "Running Wild," NBC and the White House said Monday.

The president and the British survival expert will trek through the Alaskan woods and also discuss the climate change in that area. The episode, which is yet to be taped, will air on NBC later this year.

President Obama will be the first president to appear on Grylls' show. "I will not deny your suspicion that there may have been some suggestions put forward by the Bear Grylls team that were not approved by the Secret Service," said White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, Fox News writes, citing a press release. "We have been able to work with the Secret Service to find a couple of interesting things for the president to participate in,” he added.

Grylls would also give President Obama a crash course in survival techniques for an episode of his show, added the press release. Previous celebrities who appeared on "Running Wild” with Grylls include Kate Winslet, Channing Tatum and Drew Brees.

President Obama begins his three-day tour of Alaska on Monday. During his historic trip, he will highlight the effect of climate change in the area and will also discuss about a hike on a melting glacier near the town of Seward. The president will also visit fisherman in the remote Alaskan village of Dillingham, said the press release.

President Obama's appearance on the show is "an admittedly unorthodox but legitimately interesting way for the president to reach an audience that obviously cares about conservation," Earnest added.

Grylls, 41, is a television host and adventurer known for his unique methods of survival, including drinking his own urine. He formerly hosted the Discovery Channel show “Man vs. Wild.”
