There seems to be trouble in paradise with "Vampire Diaries" couple Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert as Season 5 returns. Damon and Elena are reportedly headed towards breaking-up, just like Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev in real life, due to the long distance separation straining the couple's relationship.

Entertainment Web site E! Online reports there will be something to affect Damon and Elena's relationship during the first half of upcoming Season 5. "And it's not a supernatural element getting in the way of Delena happiness," the entertainment site further added.

It looks like the Delena couple will have another trial in their romantic relationship as they deal with the long-distance relationship. Elena Gilbert going to college, far away from Damon Salavatore, could strain the relationship especially when a new male character will enter Elena's life.

Actor Shaun Sipos has been confirmed to be an addition to the "Vampire Diaries" cast members in Season 5. Mr Sipos will be portraying character Aaron who will enter Whitemore College as well where he will meet and become close friends or something more with Elena Gilbert.

Furthermore, actor Ian Somerhalder opened up about the Delena relationship in the hit CW TV series "The Vampire Diaries" hinting some trouble. "What I love about their relationship this season is that it's something the audience has really been wanting to see for a long time. But bear in mind that this is The Vampire Diaries, so people being happy for long doesn't exist," the 34-year-old heartthrob actor stated in an interview with Digital Spy.

Mr Somerhalder added that the Damon-Elena relationship will be "strange" in the upcoming season.
"He got the girl, at a great expense. It's gotta be so strange for this guy. He was so in love with Katherine for so many years, working off the naivety of a 23-year-old man. To be in love with this woman who really broke your heart, and then all of a sudden to find a woman who is identical in every way, shape and form, who is 160 years his junior," the actor shared.

When asked how he feels with the new TVD season, Ian Somerhalder confessed about being "envious" of co-star and friend Paul Wesley portraying the evil character Silas. "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 returns on October 3 at the CW Television Network followed by the spin-off series "The Originals."
