Elena Gilbert's (Nina Dobrev) return in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5, Episode 16 titled "While You Were Sleeping" will not be a pleasant one. The TV Guide spoiler report on the upcoming episode teased Elena will suffer hallucinations from the "Ripper" virus with the werewolf venom after Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) injected it in her body.

"If you thought Katherine being sucked into hell was bad, just wait until you see what Elena is about to go through. Not only does she have the vampire-eating virus, but her hallucinations will also cause her to go a bit nutso. The light at the end of the tunnel? The kiss at the end of this preview is only the start of one crazy-hot hookup. Let's just hope they don't eat each other in the process!" the TV Guide spoiler report read.

The Wet Paint report speculates Elena's hallucinations will focus on her relationship with Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), who is also infected with the Ripper virus. However, Damon's life could be in danger once Elena finds out about the killing spree that he did after the break-up courtesy of the Petrova doppelganger inhabiting in Elena's body.

"One nip from Super Ripper Virus-infected Elena could spell the end for Damon. Most recently, this was demonstrated by Nadia, who relived the centuries-long search for her mother as she lay dying from Tyler's hybrid bite," the report read. The Damon-Elena or "Delena" relationship will be messy in the upcoming episode because of their current condition and Damon's recent behaviour.

Can Elena restrain herself from hurting Damon and move on from the horrible events that happened? The major threat in the Delena relationship is Damon's actions of hurting the people that Elena cares about like killing her college friend Aaron Whitmore (Shaun Sipos) and kidnapping and almost killing her brother, Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R McQueen).

Another thing that can upset Elena is when she finds out about Damon killing Dr Wes Maxfield (Rick Cosnett), the one who probably knows how to cure them.
